Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Background Check Associate.  Under direction, this position will receive and review incoming criminal history and Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System clearances and apply agency policy and procedures to independently provide information and/or recommendations for resolution.  The position will perform data entry of background information into the appropriate Departmental system and will serve as liaison to requesting parties.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Background Check Associate
  • Performs data entry of CANTS, Sex Offender Registry System (SORS), National Sex Offender Registry System (NSORS), Out-of-State CANTS, Interstate Criminal History, Illinois State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and/or driver eligibility status for facility drivers into the appropriate Departmental system 
  • Prepares, keyboards, and maintains complex, highly specialized BCU reports and reports related to application and recommendation materials processed through Central Office 
  • Serves as liaison to requesting parties regarding information on Authorization for Background Check 
  • Serves as Central Office of Licensing contact for all issues concerning facility driver checks 
  • Receives, sorts, reviews, and distributes incoming mail Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
  • Requires 2 years of office experience
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 45 wpm
