TRAFFIC ENFORCMENT STATISTICS

The Springfield Police Department Field Operations and Traffic Divisions are deployed every day to areas of the city that see high traffic violations and high accident incidents. Officers also focus on areas of the city that receive complaints from citizens regarding moving violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code. Officers conduct traffic enforcement to lower accident incidents and keep motorists as safe as possible. Officers will frequently focus on “Fatal 4” violations which includes speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and occupant safety violations.

On 03-17-26, Officers conducted a traffic detail at the intersection of Sangamon Avenue and Dirksen Parkway. As a result of this detail, officers conducted 39 traffic stops in a 3-hour period with 37 citations issued.

Year to date, Springfield Police Officers assigned specifically to traffic related details have conducted 391 traffic stops with 317 citations issued.

The Springfield Police Department will continue to use a data-driven approach in order to appropriately deploy officers to areas of the city that are seeing higher incidents of traffic violations and accidents.
