The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host A Monetary Policy Discussion with the Chicago Fed, featuring Austan D. Goolsbee, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. This special event will include a Fireside Chat moderated by Mark Denzler, President & CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.

As President of the Chicago Fed, Goolsbee plays a key role in shaping national monetary policy as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee. He also oversees the Bank’s economic research, supervision of financial institutions, and delivery of financial services to banks and the U.S. government.
Before assuming his current role in January 2023, Goolsbee was the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he began teaching in 1995. A respected economist, he is widely known for his research across various industries and public policy areas. His accolades include being a Fulbright Scholar and Alfred P. Sloan Fellow.

Goolsbee previously served as a member and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (2009–2011), advising the President of the United States and serving as a member of the Cabinet. He has also held advisory roles with several key organizations, including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Congressional Budget Office, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the International Monetary Fund.

He earned his PhD in economics from MIT and holds both BA and MA degrees in economics from Yale University.
