The Springfield Area Arts Council is excited to announce its first-ever Art Hunt, a month-long public art scavenger hunt taking place throughout Sangamon and Menard counties this October. Art Hunt invites participants of all ages to explore the region, discover public art, and celebrate local creativity in a fun, interactive way. Tickets are $10 per person, with proceeds providing vital Mission Support that ensures SAAC can deliver programs, pay staff, and respond to community needs with strength and flexibility.
Throughout October, new clues will be released each weekday on social media platforms, leading participants to public art sites and cultural landmarks. To play, hunters simply take a photo of themselves at each site using #SAACArtHunt. Hunters can tag SAAC on Facebook and Instagram in each post. Each photo submission counts as an entry into weekly prize drawings, with a grand prize awarded at the end of the month to the participant with the most submissions.
"Springfield and the surrounding communities are full of cultural treasures just waiting to be found," said Allison Lacher, Board Member of the Springfield Area Arts Council and Gallery Director of the University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery. "Art Hunt is a fun way to explore our public art, connect with our creative culture, and see familiar places in a new light. It’s a chance to make fresh discoveries and celebrate what makes our region special. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our community and to share those discoveries with others."
Bella Szabo, Executive Director of the Springfield Area Arts Council, added, “Public art scavenger hunts are a popular activity you see around the country, and we’re excited to bring that energy here to Springfield. Art Hunt not only invites people to enjoy a creative adventure but also shines a spotlight on the incredible local and regional artists who have left their mark on our community. It’s about making art more visible, more accessible, and more celebrated.”
