As part of the City of Springfield’s plan for community engagement, Mayor Misty Buscher is expanding opportunities for residents to connect with City leaders.
Mayor Buscher launched an initiative focused on building stronger connections between the community and City government. The first step in this process was a series of open houses with four city agencies, Springfield Fire, Public Works, Springfield Police, and City Water, Light, and Power, which was held during the summer. The second step was the launch of the online City Navigator tool (available on https://www.springfield.il.us/ ), which provides residents with multiple ways to communicate online, including the Community Connections platform.
The third phase will focus on engagement at the Ward level. Beginning in fall 2025, Mayor Buscher and each Ward’s Alderperson will jointly host a Springfield Community Connections event, making direct engagement with residents more accessible and personal. Attendees will have the chance to meet with the Mayor, their Alderperson, and senior staff from key departments, and to engage in one-on-one conversations with representatives from several City agencies.
Residents are encouraged to attend these events to meet department leaders, access helpful resources, and share openly the issues that matter in their ward. Each session will also provide materials designed to keep community members engaged and informed well beyond the day of the event.
