Effective October 7th, Springfield area air travelers will enjoy a more convenient flight schedule as American Airlines reinstates the popular early morning departure from SPI. The enhanced flight schedule gives passengers earlier access to American Airlines’ hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), making it easier to connect to hundreds of popular destinations across the country and around the world. The updated schedule is now available in the reservation system and open for booking:
Depart SPI Arrive ORD
6:00 am 7:16 am
2:12 pm 3:28 pm
Depart ORD Arrive SPI
12:39 pm 1:35 pm
10:12 pm 11:18 pm
All flight times are listed in Central Time. In November, the afternoon flight from SPI will depart slightly later to accommodate additional connections from the west coast.
These schedule enhancements coincide with American Airlines’ recent aircraft upgrade on this route. The carrier will now deploy a 65-seat Embraer E-170 jet—an increase of approximately 30% in capacity over the previous 50-seat aircraft—offering passengers a superior first-cabin experience.
Frank J. Vala, Chair of the Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners commented, “We are thrilled that American Airlines has brought back the popular early morning departure! We appreciate American’s continued commitment to provide air service to Illinois’ Capital City. The new flight schedule and larger aircraft will surely enhance the passenger experience and provide greater opportunities for local business, governmental, and leisure travel. This is a positive development that will surely provide significant support to the community’s continued efforts to grow our economy and boost tourism in the region.” Vala concluded, “We encourage all to support the air service providers who have committed to serve our community as air service development in smaller, regional markets has become increasingly challenging in this post-COVID pandemic era.”
