Beginning Monday, November 3, 11th Street from Reservoir Street to Converse Avenue and North Grand Avenue from 9th Street to 13th Street will be closed for six weeks for the fifth and final phase of City Water, Light and Power’s project to relocate 2,000 feet of a 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvements. Detours will be posted at 9th and 19th Streets for North Grand Avenue and Carpenter Street and Converse Street for 11th Street.
This project represents part of the City of Springfield’s contribution towards the rail project and is the largest component of the multi-year project to date. The work for relocating the water main for this underpass is estimated to cost $4.8 million. It is part of a total $10.2 million investment by the CWLP Water Fund for relocating and upgrading water infrastructure.
Traffic lanes will remain closed for this phase of work until road surface repairs are complete. Motorists should plan to take alternative routes to avoid delays, slow down, and drive with caution around this work zone.
