About the Role
The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Workforce Development Coordinator to design and deliver impactful programs that connect people to careers and employers to talent. This role plays a key part in strengthening our regional workforce by building pathways for youth, veterans, second-chance populations, and individuals pursuing careers in skilled trades.

This position blends program management, community engagement, and partnership development. The ideal candidate is organized, relationship-driven, and passionate about workforce access and economic growth.

What You’ll Do
Program Development & Management

  • Design and facilitate career pathway workshops for students and job seekers focused on in-demand industries and skilled trades
  • Launch and coordinate a Job Shadowing Program with local businesses and schools
  • Organize employer Meet & Greet events for high school seniors
  • Develop and oversee internship and apprenticeship opportunities with industry and trade partners
  • Implement fast-track certification programs in collaboration with technical schools and community colleges
Targeted Workforce Initiatives
  • Coordinate veteran and military transition programs to support workforce re-entry and credentialing
  • Develop and promote second-chance employment opportunities in partnership with employers and community agencies
Community & Business Engagement
  • Serve as a liaison with higher education institutions to align training with workforce needs
  • Build strong relationships with employers, unions, trade associations, and economic development partners
  • Advocate for employer participation in workforce programs and maintain a database of partnerships
 
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in workforce development, program coordination, career services, or community outreach
  • Experience managing programs or events involving multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of skilled trades, vocational education, or career readiness initiatives
  • Strong communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
  • Grant administration experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Experience working with youth, veterans, re-entry populations, or underserved communities
  • Familiarity with apprenticeship and certification programs
  • Experience in other workforce development roles
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Based primarily at the Chamber office (501 E. Capitol Ave., Suite A, Springfield, IL) with frequent travel to schools, businesses, and community sites
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required for events and outreach
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and travel locally as needed
